Save Chantilly Businesses 50% on Energy Bills This Winter

Hey Business Owners! As an HVAC technician with over 32 years of experience, I’ve seen firsthand how small maintenance steps can lead to massive energy savings. So if you’re looking for ways to cut your energy bills this winter, listen up!

Why Proper Maintenance Matters

The secret comes down to one simple trick: *regular maintenance of your HVAC system.* I know, not so exciting right? But stay with me here! A properly maintained unit runs way more efficiently than a neglected one. We’re talking the difference between a smooth driving new car and a clunker on its last wheels.

When you don’t change your air filters or get annual tune-ups, your system works harder to push that air. All that strain uses more energy and drives up costs. But when you take care of your HVAC with professional maintenance, it hums along like a prized racehorse.

The Cost of Neglect

I’ve seen businesses with energy bills up to $600 a month in winter because their heating system was so gummed up and inefficient. But with some maintenance love – coil cleaning, duct repair, refrigerant top-offs – those bills can be slashed in half!

Trust me, taking a little time now to maintain your HVAC will pay off all winter long.

The Maintenance Checklist

So what does proper maintenance entail exactly? Here are the key tasks I recommend each year before winter hits:

Clean the Coils

Your HVAC system has two sets of coils – one inside and one outside. These coils attract all kinds of dirt, dust and debris and need a thorough cleaning. I use a strong commercial grade coil cleaner and rinse them thoroughly until they look brand new! Clean coils transfer heat efficiently.

Change Filters

Clogged up filters make your unit work harder to circulate air. I recommend changing filters every 3 months at minimum. I like to use highly rated reusable electrostatic filters that capture allergens for cleaner indoor air.

Inspect Ductwork

Leaky or blocked ducts cause major inefficiency. I’ll check the duct connections at your unit and registers to ensure proper air flow. I’ll also test for leaks using a digital manometer if needed. Sealing leaks with mastic duct sealant can really help.

Check Refrigerant Charge

Low refrigerant means your AC can’t cool efficiently. I’ll examine line set connections and test refrigerant pressures to ensure the charge is adequate. I can top it off if low. Proper refrigerant equals better performance.

Test Carbon Monoxide

Faulty combustion can leak deadly carbon monoxide. I’ll run a CO test on your gas furnace as part of the safety check. Your family’s health is too important to ignore!

And sometimes I’ll recommend upgrades like new insulation, a higher efficiency unit, or smart thermostat. But often just doing maintenance saves enough energy and money!

You Need a Pro You Can Trust

Now, you *can* try to do this maintenance yourself. But in my experience, homeowners often miss key steps, use the wrong tools, or fail to diagnose underlying issues.

That’s why I always recommend having a licensed pro handle your annual tune-up. Here at J&D Mechanical Services in Chantilly, VA, we have the training, equipment and expertise to do the job right.
